In a significant move to bolster domestic semiconductor production, Apple has unveiled a multi-year collaboration with Broadcom, committing over $30 billion to manufacture more than 15 billion chips within the United States. This strategic investment is part of Apple’s broader vision to establish a complete U.S.-based chip ecosystem that encompasses both design and manufacturing processes. The initiative is anticipated to create hundreds of jobs and boost the production of advanced wireless technologies integral to Apple devices.
As a key component of this agreement, Broadcom will allocate $1.5 billion to enhance and modernize its manufacturing facility in Fort Collins, Colorado. This upgraded facility will be responsible for producing advanced radio frequency (RF) components, including FBAR filters, which are critical for improving wireless performance and connectivity across Apple products.
Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, emphasized that the partnership underscores the company’s enduring commitment to American manufacturing and innovation. He highlighted the importance of the advanced components that will be produced in Colorado, noting their crucial role in delivering the high standard of performance and wireless capabilities that customers expect from Apple devices. Cook expressed pride in deepening Apple’s investment in U.S.-based suppliers that focus on advanced technology and high-quality manufacturing.
Hock Tan, CEO of Broadcom, also expressed enthusiasm for the expanded partnership, aligning with Apple’s dedication to enhancing American innovation and manufacturing. This new agreement forms a part of Apple’s previously outlined $600 billion U.S. investment plan, which includes expanding manufacturing capacity, developing AI server facilities in Texas, and creating additional high-skilled jobs across the nation.
