Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, experienced a significant financial loss of $238 million in the second quarter. This setback comes as the company redirected its focus to social media after previously diversifying into cryptocurrency and other areas.
During the same quarter, the company reported $1.7 million in revenue, more than doubling the amount earned during the same period the previous year. Kevin McGurn, the newly appointed CEO, emphasized that the company will prioritize its core social media platform while continuing to pursue select initiatives, including a planned merger with the nuclear fusion company TAE Technologies.
In a bid to enhance its offerings, Trump Media introduced Truth API, a subscription service aimed at financial firms. This service provides early access to posts from Donald Trump and other prominent users on Truth Social. The pricing for the service ranges from $60,000 to $100,000 per month, and it has already attracted 10 clients, primarily high-frequency trading firms.
As of the end of the quarter, Trump Media had over $400 million in cash and short-term investments, in addition to approximately $1.2 billion in bitcoin and related assets. The company also carries about $1 billion in debt through convertible notes set to mature in 2028.
