LG Innotek, TDK Collaborate on Cutting-Edge Robot Vision and Tactile Sensors

In a strategic move to enhance the capabilities of robotics and physical AI, LG Innotek has entered into a collaboration with Japan’s TDK. This partnership aims to develop cutting-edge vision and tactile sensing modules, leveraging LG Innotek’s expertise in optical and precision engineering alongside TDK’s advanced sensor technologies.

The two companies have set their sights on launching a pioneering vision sensing module by 2027. This module, which will incorporate an inertial sensor, is designed to integrate visual, motion, direction, and sound data. The goal is to enable robots to interpret and interact with their environments more effectively, while also minimizing image distortion caused by movement.

In addition to the vision sensing module, LG Innotek and TDK are working on a tactile sensing module that mimics the functionality of human skin. This innovative system will allow robots to perceive touch and pressure through their extremities and bodies, significantly enhancing their interaction capabilities. Like the vision sensing module, the tactile system is also expected to be completed by 2027.

LG Innotek believes that this collaboration will bolster its standing in the burgeoning robotics market. By broadening its AI sensing technology portfolio—which includes cameras, lidar, radar, and tactile sensors—the company aims to solidify its position as a leader in the field.
