WhatsApp is enhancing its digital payment offerings by launching a new feature that enables users to pay utility bills directly through its messaging app. This expansion allows users to manage everyday bills, such as electricity and gas, without leaving the platform.
The new service operates via the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network, supporting over 22,700 billers across 30 different categories. Users can pay for a variety of services, including water, FASTag, insurance, credit card bills, and loan repayments.
To use the bill payment feature, users simply navigate to the WhatsApp home screen, choose a bill category and provider, enter their account details, and confirm the bill amount before proceeding with the payment. The platform offers multiple payment options, including UPI, debit cards, and credit cards.
Additionally, WhatsApp users can keep track of their payment history, monitor upcoming bills, and manage several accounts under the same service provider. This development positions WhatsApp as a more comprehensive digital services platform, allowing users to complete various tasks without needing to switch between different applications.
This initiative underscores the increasing integration of messaging services with digital financial tools, as tech companies strive to simplify payments and routine transactions within their existing ecosystems.
